Project Description: Resident Canada Geese Damage Management at Washington Aqueduct Water Treatment Plants and Facilities Washington Aqueduct has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to document the effects of proposed actions associated with resident Canada geese damage management at its facilities. WA facilities located in the Montgomery County, Maryland and the District of Columbia include the Dalecarlia Reservoir, Dalecarlia WTP, Georgetown Reservoir, McMillan Reservoir, and McMillan WTP. The proposed action at WA facilities is the Integrated Wildlife Damage Management (IWDM) to manage, reduce and eliminate damage resulting from conflicts with the resident Canada geese population. IWDM is a comprehensive approach consisting of combination of non-lethal and lethal techniques used to keep the resident Canada geese population in control and avoid associated problems by implementing the best available management methods in a cost-effective manner while minimizing potentially harmful effects on humans, target and non-target species, and the environment. The proposed action also includes capture of the resident Canada geese, conducted from mid-June through mid-July depending upon exact time of the molt, weather conditions, responsiveness of the resident geese, and availability of Wildlife Services personnel of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
